Second Annual Spring Fling
Rindge, NH 4/7/01
This year's Spring Fling was a repeat of last year's. We have had no spring here in New England this year. The forecast for Saturday, 4/7 was overcast with drizzle and a chance of showers in the afternoon. However, the BBQ gods smiled on us again and it turned out to be another absolutely picture perfect spring day with lots of sun and warm temperatures.
This year the contest was hosted by the historic Woodbound Inn in Rindge, NH. Unfortunately the Fitzwilliam Inn, the site of last year's Spring Fling, has closed down. New England Barbecue Society Treasurer Charlie Pini did a great job organizing the event again this year, including finding the new location.
The categories for this year's competition were burgers, chicken, sausage and seafood. There was also a repeat of Charlie's Iron Chef category. Competitors were presented with a box containing ingredients from which they must prepare an entire meal that included all the ingredients in the box. The ingredients were secret until 10:00 AM the day of the contest when they were revealed to be a tomato, garlic, an apple and pork loin.
We were lucky enough to win Second place in Chicken and Seafood, First Place in Sausage and the Grand Champion trophy. The Yahoos won Reserve Grand Champion.
Everyone had a great time again this year. Hopefully this will become an annual event.
